Preparation for assembly:

1.Fill with fluid to bottom of fill hole. Place transmission on flat and level surface to fill. ATF Mobile 1 full-synthetic is required.
2.Install reverse lamp pigtail prior to installation. It is easier to install before final installation in car.
3.Install studs in transmission, coarse thread side. Use red Loc-tite on threads. Use package #2
a.For 6 cylinders only 7 studs are used. The location under the shift fork is not required.
b.For V12 application, all 8 locations are used.

4.Install bell housing on transmission using shake-proof washers and nuts. Loc-tite is optional. Use package #3
5.Mount bell-housing/transmission to engine. Hardware not supplied.

6.Install transmission mount to back of transmission. Using package #6 hardware to attach mount to tail housing of transmission.

7.V12 ONLY- Install clutch slave to side of transmission. Remove stainless steel Allen head screws and attach. Slave and mounting hardware NOT provided.

8. After installation of engine/transmission assembly into car, secure the rear of the transmission with the transmission mount plate. Take care as the mounting plate only fits

one way. It is easy to get this wrong.

9.Connect drive shaft to drive flange on transmission using supplied hardware in package #4.

10.Install speedometer angle drive (not supplied).

11.Install Shifter arm using supplied hardware in package #5. Apply red Loc-tite to threads.

12.Install shifter ball.

13.Connect the reverse lamp leads.

Note: All CJ5/600 transmissions are thoroughly bench tested before shipping. They are filled with ATF and run at speed and under load in all gears on a test rig in the CJ machine shop. ATF used during testing is drained prior to shipping. We recommend changing the ATF in your transmission every 12,000 miles (approx).

Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) must be used in your CJ5/600 transmission.
