2002 Mustang GT convertible

Update report - April 16, 2003

Well, as promised the continuing motoring adventures of Andy, this time under the pseudonym Mustang Andy.......the driver formally known as Andy E Type. First let me introduce you to my ve-hic-ul.

Ford Mustang GT convertible
4.6 L V8 5 Speed transmission
Black/Black/Charcoal
Premium package

Following the sad demise of the 2+2 and my other vintage auto, the 71 Mercedes 280 SE, I finally decided that I had to step into the 21st century. I was keen to have a convertible, especially in Texas and given my budget, I decided that the Mustang was the best bang for my buck. I know many of you won’t approve but what you have to remember is that where I come from gas is currently $7 per gallon and car prices are typically around 30% more than the US and other European countries. So to drive a 5 liter convertible around in the sunshine (lots of it here), is a thrill, especially for less than 30 grand. Add to this the excellent terms from Ford, i.e. 0% interest and door to door delivery from Northside Ford in San Antonio and well, as we say back home “It would be rude not to”....

Following delivery it was roof off, Ray Banns on and into the Texas Hill country for a test session. On return I made mental note to wear baseball cap and have collar up to avoid 30 degree burns in Texas sun. As far as the car was concerned: very enjoyable, respectably progressive and fun. The V8 makes a wonderful rumble when you fire it up and is very throaty. The car drives well but is a bit twitchy at the rear and you have to be careful putting power down through the corners. Other than, it has been nothing but pleasure.

To date I have completed 6000 miles without incident and the car hasn’t missed a beat. As far as maintenance is concerned, all it has needed has been an oil change at 3000 miles, cost $30. I will update you as time progresses.

Regards to all,

Mustang Andy
