Installing Valve Seals - XK Engines

Q
Do you recommend retrospectively installing valve seals on XK engines where seals were not part of the original specification?

A
Absolutely, yes. We install seals on the intake valves of all engines that we build at Classic Jaguar.

Q
Is it a straight forward installation?

A
Yes. Installing valve seals will not necessitate any additional machine work or the use of any special tools.

Q
I have heard that some other parts must be swapped out during the installation process - is this correct?

A
Yes. It is essential that the spring seats, spring retainers and spilt collets are substituted for the later versions that are found in later XK engines where valve seals were installed at the factory. Use of the earlier style components in conjunction with valve seals may result in the seals being destroyed. The subsequent fragments of valve seal could find their way behind the spilt collet valve retainers - with disastrous results.

Q
How can I identify which parts I need to use in conjunction with the valve seals?

A
Click on thumbnail photograph below to see the differences between the early and late components referred to above.
