3.8 E Type Seat Base Restoration

Early E Type seats have a two piece plywood frame upon which the seat bottom cushion rests. These two plywood sections are held together by a metal bracket that runs the width of the seat base. Although the bracket can normally be restored, the plywood panels are invariably decayed beyond repair.

Using the original plywood panels as templates, it is relatively easy to make new panels out of new 1/2 inch plywood. You will need a jigsaw for the main template and a hole saw to cut two 1 1/8 inch holes in the rear panel section. An industrial staple gun will also be needed to install the elasticated webbing and the under cushion matting.
